When the fog has lifted and you see clearly your place in the grand scheme of things. You begin to realize the hidden bits of importance in life and all false ideals become obsolete. Every minute of your days will then be spent appreciating things you may have unintentionally overlooked before. Your new values can not be purchased or borrowed. These things whether they be memories, a dream, an action, an idea, or a thought, will become and define everything that you are. What you say and do will be of knowledge and substance. Simplicity, rid your mind of the garbage that’s fed to you. The time is now to take control and embrace a peaceful awakened life.
Each of us will eventually die, whether we are ready or not, someday, it will come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours, or days. All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else. Your wealth, fame, and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance. It will not matter what you owned or owed. Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear. So too your hopes, plans, ambitions, and to do lists will expire. The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away. It won’t matter where you came from or on what side of the tracks you lived at the end. It won’t matter if you’re beautiful or brilliant. Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant. So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought but what you built. Not what you got but what you gave. What will matter is not your success but your significance. What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught. What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered, or encouraged others to emulate your example. What will matter is not your competence but your character. What will matter was not how many people you knew but how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone. What will matter is not your memories, but the the memories that live in those who love you.
A life lived that matters is not of circumstance, but of choice.
You know how most cities have that certain vibe about them? That adventurous eclectic vibe, or that happy go lucky I’m in the city Therefor I’m invincible feeling. Well, Hattiesburg Mississippi is unlike any other city I’ve been through. While driving on the back roads of the dried up wasteland you’ll notice that the air reeks of rotting carcus’. If you can get past the pungent smell of death in order to feel a breeze through your window, don’t be surprised when you hear the chanting of the animal rituals occuring deep within the woods or the cries from the virgin sacrifices. The air here is thick, the people mumble, and the hotels are ridden with “quicky” encounters. Quite the curious city, strange, uncomfortable, and just plain dirty. Next stop: FLORIDA, the sunshine state!
Today was my last day working at sante’. A bittersweet day. I’m going to miss my second family that developed in that little resturaunt in only a years time. Such a talented unique inspiring group of people! A votre sante’! On that note- who’s coming to my going away party/kelley Wilkins birthday party tomorrow night at far west billiards?! Meet us there at 8pm! I would love to see every single one of you before I venture off!
My lucidity and realism keep me from hoping for the impossible. Today has restored my faith in love. No more wasting time with illusions.
Two weeks from today I will embark on a cross country road trip to the sunshine state….and I won’t be coming back. Thank you to all that have made my time here in Spokane enjoyable, you know who you are! The memories we’ve shared will continue to inspire me never to give up! I hope the same for all of you.
I will be sending out invites to my going away party asap.
